Keep Tanner in the Game: Her Story
Watching her older brother and cousin playing football sparked Tanner’s interest in playing the game herself. She started playing when she was 6. Now 17 years old, Tanner is a high school linebacker, running back, and strong safety who also has been invited to the WNFC Varsity Top 100 Flag Tournament multiple years. Tanner also represented Got Her Back on stage at the first inaugural Girls Ball Gala.
She's experienced challenges on her football journey so far. “As a girl who plays tackle football, it’s very hard to get coaches and players to not understand you or laugh in your face. It’s been really hard for me to get on the field unless I have a coach who actually trusts me and knows how much talent I have. The players also make it hard because they a lot of times liked to tear me down and make me doubt my every move.”
Through the doubt Tanner has had to work through, she’s been equally driven to improve, on and off the field. Tanner thrives despite the negativity of others. She belongs on the field.
